They looked at the 2003-2004 school year only and found that around 50% of Latino college students go to only 6% of institutions of higher education in the United States identified as Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Latinos that went to Hispanic-Serving Institutions cited cost of the college and location as very important. Latinos that did not go to Hispanic-Serving Institutions cited financial aid, institutional prestige, and academic programs as critical factors influencing the college choice.
