a report out looking at absentee rates for students in early grade levels and how it effects learning in later grade levels.

The report looks at nine school districts.

They found that the more absent a student was in kindergarten, the bigger the educational impact in first grade was. With a look at race they found Latino students suffered the most.

When they looked at fifth grade performance though, reading scores dropped for every level of absentee rates they looked at. For math though no drop occurs until you reach the worst level.

This report imo certainly shows that you have to get after parents and students at the kindergarten level to make sure they are going to school on a consistent basis.
