Freidman Foundation Report….
on just Texas High school dropouts is out.
They say that the 2005 High School Graduation rate is only 67% with more than 119 thousand not graduating from high school. The public cost for one year of these dropouts is 377 million bucks or a whopping 19 billion over a 50 year time period. They go on to say that the state spends more money per year on a dropout then a regular school children if you exclude local and federal funding sources.
The reports says that 2 billion per year in taxes is missed due to these dropouts. Medicaid costs for these dropouts comes in at 321 million a year from the state.
