Center For The Future Of Teaching And Learning Report….
on California teachers is out. The report says that the state has an almost record amount of teachers teaching for it and the amount of underprepared teachers has dropped by more than half since the 2000-2001 school year.
More teachers in schools with low Academic Performance Index scores have underprepared teachers than schools with high Academic Performance Index scores. Same goes for Minority rates as well.
The report also talks about discontinued and inactive teacher recruitment programs and how a teacher can get hired in the state.
The final part of the report looks at recommendations the state could pass such as tax incentives to businesses that will hire teachers in the summer time, eliminating barriers to retired teachers to teach in shortage areas, and to create a comprehenive program of grants and loans for prospective teachers to cover costs to name a few.
