on service-learning and high school students. The report looks at how service-learning can lower dropout rates.

If you tie the service-learning in with the class a student is taking that can be a great idea to help solve the dropout crisis.

I love this report.

Council Of Great City Schools Out With A New Report….

out on the 68 school districts they look at which does included the District of Columbia area.

They found that 63% of fourth graders scored at or above proficiency levels in math on
their respective state exams in 2007, up from 49% in 2003. 55% of eighth graders did the same thing and that is up from 42% in 2003.

When it came to fourth grade reading scores 60% of them scored at or above proficiency levels on their respective state exams in 2007, up from 51% in 2003. 51% of eighth graders did the same thing and that is up from 43% in 2003.

The did also find that the racial gap shrinking for both exams.

The Things these schools all shared was a quality curriculum, a shared vision of school improvement, engaging student thinking, supportive learning environment, and a positive climate for teachers.

This report is a good read on different school models.
