local library. My main computer is in the shop and I hope to get it back next week. I am working on getting my old computer up and running so I can continue to work on this website. Until then you may not be seeing much news on this blog.

NCLB Lawsuit Filed In California….

and it is against the “highly qualified teacher” rules in the NCLB. 59,000 teachers are considered highly qualified without meeting the credentials. The Sacramento Bee article also states that in just the state of California they have more than 10,000 interns who practically do not have any teacher certification yet.

My quick thoughts:

IMO the highly qualified teacher rules are a joke. If you do not have a teacher license you 100% must not be called highly qualified, but the federal government blew it big time. If you have a teacher license you need like 5 years in the classroom before you can even get that type of a status. Score one for people filing this lawsuit.

California Research Dropout Project Report….

out on economic losses due to high school dropouts. The report states that 20% of the adult workforce in California are dropouts which is around 4 million adults and includes people with a GED.

This article gets detailed by looking at people aged 20 in 2005. 554,098 people fit this age group. 130,681 persons will have high school as their highest level of eduction. 156,817 persons will have some college classes under their belt. 148,105 persons will have some level of college degree and the 118,496 left that will be dropouts.

61% of the 118,496 are Hispanic.

Over their lifetimes these people will cost the state 46.4 billion in lost earnings. That same group also winds up with 3.1 billion in lost state and local tax revenue, 3.5 billion in health care, 2.5 billion in crime, and 400 million in welfare.
