The House Has Passed….

a bill, H.R. 2669, on Wednesday that is going to cut around $19 billion in federal subsidies to banks that issue government-backed student loans. They are also going to provide 4,000 a year if you teach is subjects like math in low income schools.

Michigan State has agreed to a 9.6% tuition increase while Oakland University has passed a 13.9% increase. Four out of 15 Universities in the state have raised tuition even though they do not know what funding they are going to get.

on prekindergarten class spending. They say the initial cost per student is $6,300 and would enroll just over 2 million students. In nine years time they say net annual effect on government budgets alone would turn positive and by 2050 for every one buck spend on prekindergarten classes would net $3.18 in budget savings. Included with the report is costs for this program in every single US state.

In a related article the Time-Dispatch reports that Virgina Gov. Timothy Kaine wants to offer a universal prekindergarten plan.

in a new report out states that foreign student enrollment has dropped in Massachusetts and in California. The report did say that foreign student enrollment has increased in New York.

has agreed to keep a fourth year of math required to get into Colorado colleges, but will now allow classes such as business math to count towards the four years of math. They have also agree to lower the foreign language requirement from 2 years down to 1.
