that high scores on achievement test does not mean economic success. This study which looked as 3 dozen countries which included the USA over a thirty year period.
I will say that although high test scores may not be needed we do have to have enough workers in some fields to make sure the economy keeps running smoothly. The education system needs to work on getting more students into math and science fields for starters.
