State Officials In Vermont Say….

that one quarter of the schools in the state of Vermont fail to meet NCLB rules.  Broader testing of the students is to blame for the rise to 61 failing schools from 10.

The Fairfax County Wants….

to speed up all-day kindergarten to all 136 schools by 2010. So far only 73 schools offer all-day kindergarten in the area.

School officials do say that it is going to cost an extra 13.4 million in salary per year and over 9 million for new school space and equipment.

has a bunch of reports up on state test scores.

The scores do show a few bright spots, but science scores are lagging.  Denver Public Schools did show some nice gains though in reading.

You can even compare scores between school districts.

School Officals In The Dallas Area….

say that Hispanic students are becoming the dominate ethnic group in some the schools, but Hispanic teachers are a rare find.

Over 33% of the students in Dallas schools are Hispanic, but less than 10% of all teachers were Hispanic. Low college graduation rates for Hispanic students are a major cause of this problem.
I say to solve this problem we are going to have to have a teacher recruitment program in the school system for high school students.

a recent article up on a nursing camp for teens at Tacoma General Hospital. Out of the 200 students that wanted to get into this camp only 86 was able to get in.

Students who want into this camp needed to send in a transcript, attendance records, and send in an essay.

The camp lasts for four days and they get to spend time as they shadow nurses and doctors.
