Senate Budget Co-Chairwoman Margaret Carter who says she is certain that the school for the blind is going to close.

The also report that k-12 schools in the state are going to be spared deep cuts, but other parts of the budget are going to take bigger cuts.

with a report looking at just Denver Public School students in the high school and middle school grades in the 2006-2007 school year.

Looking at dropout data:

One in ten were new students. 42% were ESL students, and most dropouts came from the ninth grade.

They found only 7% were close to meeting graduation standards.

61% of students who dropped out had over 20 absences, while only 35% wound up graduating.

77% of 9th graders who dropped out had at least one F grade.

The Union-Tribune is out with an article looking at the bad job market for college grads.

The USA Today reports on the new GI bill that could get more people from the military in the college classroom.

The Oregonian reports on the Vose Elementary School and the scholarship program they have.

The Philadelphia Inquirer with another article on the QuestBridge program that helps kids get into college for free.

The Kansas City Star is reporting on three Central High School students that are going to share a dorm room together at college in order for them to attempt to graduate from college together.

The Times Dispatch reports on George Mason University that is going to be allowing students to get a degree in computer games.

The AP reports on the University of Oregon that is retrofitting electrical machines to help generate electricity for the electrical grid.

The Detroit News has an interview up with the Secretary of Education which does talk about Mayoral control of the school district.

One article they also have is on the local school district that is going to get rid of 33 principals.

Another article is on the Detroit Federation of Teachers that are really happy at this time with the ideas that mayor have control over the school district and giving principals more hiring and firing power over teachers.
