The article says that Carey’s Organic Chemistry college textbook in a US edition goes for around 213 bucks. I saw it at Amazon.com listed for around 170. TIME saw that same book in an international edition for 12 bucks at Abesbooks.com. I saw that too, but other listings of the same book were above 50 bucks though.

12 bucks is like the best deal possible though. You never get 90% back from the book store from a new copy at the end of the semester.
