Maine Education Policy Research Institute…..

has issued a report on how well giving a laptop to seventh and eighth graders in the state has helped writing skills. The report compared Maine Educational Assessment scores from the year 2000 and 2005. The scores went up 3.44 points.

In 2000 only 29.1% of 8th graders passed the writing part of the exam in 2005 41.4% did.

dropouts in North Carolina finds the state’s 715,000 working-age dropouts cost at least $712 million annually in lost sales tax revenue, around 6 million in prison costs and 155 million in Medicare.
