PACE Policy Brief Is Out On…..

California community college students. They say a majority of young students enter into a community college with a goal of transferring to another college to get a bachelor’s degree, but after one semester the dream is destroyed for most students.

25% did not return to college, around 33% returned for the spring semester with lower aspirations, and around 41% came back with the aspirations in tack.

One trend they found is for all races is that if a student in the first semester took more than three transferable college level classes they were more likely to transfer to a four year college.

Another trend for all races they found is that students were more likely to transfer to another college if they had to take 0 basic skills classes.

on a legit few colleges that still have passing a swimming exam as part of the college requirement. Holdouts include Cornell, Columbia, and Dartmouth to name a few.

They also include the military academies which are the only colleges I would agree upon should have this requirement.

on the increasing amount of fees tacked on for college students. University of North Dakota has a fee so they can help get the sports teams into Division 1A. Montana State University Billings has a library fee.

I think a lot of these fees are nuts.
