on working poor and college graduation is out. The report states that in 2005 only 6% of working poor were in college at some level, but 13% of nonworking poor are enrolled. The report also states that nonworking poor are more likely to get a college degree than working poor. working poor are more likely to not enroll full time due to work and family responsibilities. The working poor also wind up having problems meeting financial need leaving nearly a 3-4 grand gap to fill. The report also says that after six years of going to college nearly half of the working poor have a college degree.
The report counts 14% of the 24-64 population as working poor.
Recommendations they want I can agree with. They want longer hours for financial aid offices, more flexible class time hours, extend time for libraries and labs, increase exempted amount a student can earn to get a Pell Grant, and allow postsecondary education to meet the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families work requirements.
