on new teachers in the Chicago Public Schools is out. The report talks about all first and second year teachers in the Chicago Pub Schools having to be in the GOLDEN(Guidance, Orientation, Leadership, Development,Empowering New Teachers) program which totaled around 1800 for the 2004-2005 school year. The school district also has other induction programs for teachers.

The report does says that around 20% do not even participate in an induction program. I say that is a complete no-no.

The report says that the newest teachers usually wind up in the classrooms that have more students that lack skills to learn and teach in classrooms that usually have the most violence.

Most teachers are positive about the teaching expirence they had says the report, but being in an induction does not influence them into staying on as a teacher.

This report is a good read imo.
