Fairfax Schools Give Up Fight….

against testing rules in the NCLB bill. The school district gave the superintendent the authority in January of 2007 to fight the NCLB rules. If they went against the federal government they would have lost 17 million bucks.

Highlights include:

62% strongly agree that NCLB with AYP goals encourage teachers to “teach to the test.”

69% strongly agree that NCLB with AYP goals causes teacher burnout.

48% strongly disagree that NCLB with AYP goals helps students get a quality education.

50% strongly disagree that NCLB with AYP goals is closing the achievement gap.

63% strongly disagree that NCLB with AYP is an effective way to assess schools.
